About the Work

At the tail end of the Alishan Range lies the barren, low-elevation badlands known as the "Moon World." Recent environmental shifts have clothed the northern slopes in dense vegetation, while the sun-baked southern slopes remain hardened and inhospitable to plant life. This duality mirrors the title VVV (referencing Shan (墡) and E (堊), or chalk and clay, two ancient Chinese characters denoting white soil), evoking contrasts between black and white, color and monochrome. Through visual collage and spatial audio, the artists reflect on the reciprocal contract between species and the land, laying bare the homogenous alienation within the Moon World.

About the Artist

Huang, Hsin-yao: Known for his humorous, satirical voice that exposes the absurdity and melancholy of ordinary life. His creative path evolved from early social issue portraiture toward probing the narrative boundaries of documentary and narrative feature films. In recent years, he has focused on non-narrative visual experiments, using essayistic collages to reveal depersonalized land stories and life textures.
