About the Work

A spiritual vessel designed to travel through time, offering two distinct ways of seeing—from within and from without. Its exterior suggests a machine capable of diving into the deep sea, flying through space, and crossing into other worlds, carrying the unknown and the imagination. Viewers may enter through the front hatch into a dim interior to encounter shifting light, or glimpse inside through round panes of colored glass. Within, a bridge-like space extends the gaze through the body of the vessel, leading toward a realm that is both private and expansive—an inner landscape of imagination.

About the Artist

As an independent artist working within a solo studio setup, Li Chengliang creates large-scale works, furniture, and spatial installations using materials such as steel, wood, and stone. His practice embraces collaboration between craftsmanship and art, merging handcraft, painting, and narrative within conceptual frameworks. His work often explores the inherent properties and malleability of materials, seeking the most fitting forms of expression. Through this process, the shapes of objects are designed to resonate with the surrounding space, creating a dialogue between the work and its environment. Li’s creations reflect a deep engagement with the cultural contexts of various places, focusing on the conditions of daily life and attempting to offer interpretations and reflections on contemporary existence.
